Kenneth Rhea Holcomb QMC(SS)
Kenneth Rhea Holcomb, passed away on May 26, 2015, at the age of 75.
Ken joined the United States Navy in 1956 and faithfully served his country for 21 years. After retiring from the Navy, he took a job with Newport News Shipbuilding performing work on submarines and surface vessels. He retired from the working man's life in 2001, but continued to stay active as a volunteer in various capacities.
Ken was an avid gardener and runner. He proudly had one of largest gardens in the neighborhood and would often share the bounty of his harvest to anyone that wanted fresh vegetables.
Ken met the love of his life in 1961 and married Elizabeth Anne Miller in 1964. They were married for 50 years and together they raised 3 children.
Ken was preceded in death by his parents, Sam Houston and Mildred. Ken is survived by his wife, Elizabeth; his brothers, John and Sam; and his three children and their spouses, William, Kendra, Robert, Betsy, Beth, and Jeremy. He is also the beloved grandfather of eight grandchildren, TJ, Brendon, Tyler, Peyton, Katelyn, Kaleb, Griffen and Jensen.
Visitation will be held at Hollomon-Brown Funeral Home at 1485 Kempsville Rd. in Virginia Beach, VA from 6:30 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. on Saturday, May 30, 2015. A memorial service followed by graveside interment will be held at Hollomon-Brown Funeral Home at 11 a.m. on Sunday, May 31, 2015. Both the visitation and memorial service are open to family and friends. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that a donation be made to either the Alzheimer's Association or the Wounded Warrior Foundation.
