Stephen James Topscher
TOPSCHER – Stephen James, Chantilly, Va., on the evening of March 18, 2016, he passed away after a three-year battle with ALS. “Steve” was born May 12, 1954, in Johnstown, to loving parents Shirley (Williams) and Stephen F. Topscher. Steve is survived by Diane (Belgard) Topscher, wife of 35 years; children, Bryan Topscher, and wife, Jennifer (Cohen); and grandchildren, Tessa and Zachary of Fairfax, Va.; Melissa Topscher, and husband, Rohit Eustace, Seattle, Wash.; and Gregory Topscher, Brooklyn, N.Y.; and siblings, Catherine Stephens, husband, James, and daughter, Shannon, Johnstown, and Thomas, wife, Stephanie (Fiori), and daughter, Alyson, Myrtle Beach, S.C. Steve was a 1972 graduate of Bishop McCort High School, Johnstown. He graduated from the U.S. Naval Academy in May 1976. After performing one year of Naval research, he proceeded into the submarine core. After his military career, he was employed as a petroleum engineer for Exxon Oil Corp. He received his MBA from Houston Baptist University in May 1998. He was then employed by Capital One as a senior analyst from August 1998 to February 2014. Steve loved his family, friends and life. He considered his Naval Academy friends “brothers forever.” He loved camping, hiking, golfing, long distance bike riding and remodeling the house. His great love was bike riding; he rode in the MS 150 in Houston, Texas, Tour of Richmond, and Cap to Cap Ride, Richmond, several times. We know he will be golfing and riding bikes in heaven. Memorial service will be at 11 a.m. April 15, 2016, at Christ Church, 7600 Ox Road, Fairfax Station, Va. 22039. Interment to follow at a later date.
